Engaging craft items, gallery-class fine art and other enticing wares await visitors to the popular Art Under the Oaks show set for Saturday, Jan. 16. The 27th event is held on the shaded grounds of San Pedro Catholic Church, mile marker 89.5 bayside on Plantation Key in Islamorada. In the past, the parish has raised more than $10,000 in this one-day event.
Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., attendees can listen to live music and browse booths featuring watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings as well as photography, sculpture, woodwork and other artistic creations. In addition, items donated by local artists are to be raffled off during the show.
Other activities include kid-centric toys, arts and crafts as well as self-guided nature walks.
Celebrities such as Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen of Miami regularly visit the show.
Specialty food and beverage booths are to encourage easy picnicking and satisfy shoppers’ munchies. The San Pedro’s men’s club intends to sell fresh fish and chips as well as Italian sausage, while the women’s guild bakes and sells fresh breads, cakes, pies and cookies. Other vendors entice with aromatic funnel cakes, caramel corn and popcorn, and fresh-squeezed lemonade.
There is no admission charge. Parking is available about a quarter-mile away at Coral Shores High School with a free shuttle bus to the show. On-site parking is available for a $5 donation.
